Cop, Pedestrian Injured In Motorcycle Collision In Vallejo

The accident was Thursday night, and alcohol was possibly involved.

A Vallejo police officer and a pedestrian were injured in a motorcycle collision Thursday night.

At approximately 7:19 p.m., Vallejo motorcycle officers were working on special assignment focusing on DUI enforcement on Broadway Street south of Couch Street when they observed a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed, police said.

The officers made a u-turn in order to make an enforcement stop on the speeding motorcycle when one of the officers collided with a pedestrian who was pushing a shopping cart in the middle of the street.

The officer, a nine-year veteran of the Vallejo Police Department, was injured in the collision and transported to the hospital. He suffered minor injuries and has been released from the hospital.

The pedestrian, a 54-year-old Vallejo resident, was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries that were not life threatening, police said.

The collision is still under investigation, but police said alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the incident.
