Drive-Thru Coronavirus Test Site Opens In Solano County

Testing is free for first responders, health care workers and essential workers who live or work in Solano County. Here's what to know.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — A drive-thru coronavirus testing site opened Wednesday in Vallejo in partnership with the California Office of Emergency Services — Cal OES — and with materials provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency — FEMA. The testing site is at Solano County Fairgrounds, 900 Fairgrounds Dr. in Vallejo.

As of Friday, Solano County has seen 121 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak began, including 44 in Vallejo, 33 in Fairfield and 21 in Vacaville. The cities of Benicia, Dixon, Rio Vista and Suisun City have all seen fewer than 10 cases, according to the latest coronavirus report from Solano County public health officials.

The drive-thru testing is currently for symptomatic first responders, health care workers and other essential workers. To be tested, a person must live or work in Solano County, must present a valid identification card, and must show symptoms consistent with COVID-19, including fever, cough, chills or body aches.

Essential employees include, but are not limited to, people who work in the following settings:

  • Grocery stores, food banks, restaurants and food delivery
  • Gas stations and auto-repair facilities
  • Transportation providers
  • Child care facilities
  • Water, sewer, solid waste, gas and electrical operations
  • Mailing and shipping services
  • Banks
  • Hardware stores, warehouses, and distribution centers
  • Construction
  • Laundry service
  • Telecommunications, internet, and media services

Testing is free of charge and by appointment only. Call 707-784-8655 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to make an appointment. If no one answers, callers are asked to not leave a voicemail but to call back at a different time.

The test consists of a self-administered nasal swab. The swabs are then processed at the Napa-Yolo-Solano-Marin Public Health Lab, with results available within one to three days.

The drive-thru hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 9 a.m. until noon on Fridays.

Testing is not currently being offered for those who are asymptomatic (not experiencing symptoms), according to the county.
