Arts Benicia presents a months-long exhibit of the work of Joseph Mele, a local painter and sculptor.
Of his inspiration, Mele says: "The human form and gesture excites me. I paint on large and small canvases, draw with charcoal and pastel and work in printmaking and mixed media. I spontaneously create with color and texture using figures, faces and icons to search for a deeper understanding of life—a connection that all life forms share, seen and unseen. I work on an emotional level without a preconceived idea of the outcome and since making art is my way of unleashing what is inside of me, I work quickly with a tremendous amount of energy."
