Fairfield Man, 41, Arrested For Drugstore Stabbing

A woman was at a photo kiosk at CVS in Vacaville when reportedly stabbed by a stranger.

Police have identified a man who they arrested Monday after he allegedly stabbed a woman several times inside a Vacaville CVS store.

Police arrested 41-year-old Fairfield resident James Barnes for the apparently unprovoked stabbing at the store, located at 625 Elmira Road, according to police.

The incident happened around 1:10 p.m., a Vacaville city spokesman said. The woman was downloading photos from her phone to make prints at the kiosk when the man, who she did not know, stabbed her several times, spokesman Mark Mazzaferro said.

A store employee and several customers grabbed the man and held him down until police arrived, Mazzaferro said. The woman suffered serious injuries but was conscious and alert when she was taken to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center and is expected to survive, Mazzaferro said.

Barnes was taken to police headquarters for questioning, Mazzaferro said. Police said CVS employees and customers took “heroic actions” when they stopped the attack and helped subdue Barnes.
