Flaring Expected In Benicia From Valero Refinery: Fire Department
Intermittent flaring will occur at the refinery tonight and into the early-morning hours of Wednesday, fire officials said.

BENICIA, CA —Benicia residents should expect intermittent flaring Tuesday night from the Valero Benicia Refinery, the Benicia Fire Department said in an advisory.
City staff was notified earlier Tuesday by the refinery that it would be starting up one of its units after completing maintenance work, Benicia FD officials said in a Facebook post late Tuesday afternoon.
"As a result of the startup, intermittent flaring will occur at the refinery throughout this evening and early morning hours," fire officials said. "A flame will be visible and neighbors near the fence line may notice some sounds associated with the flaring."

Valero wants to remind residents that flares are industrial devices that safely burn excess hydrocarbons in a controlled manner, according to the fire department.
"Benicia Fire Department staff continually communicates with Valero and will be monitoring this flaring activity," fire officials said.
