Former Benicia Mayor Out of Ice Cream Business, Will Run For County Supervisor

Steve Messina will soon be the former owner of the Double Rainbow ice cream store on First Street.

is a and a former city councilman, and when he gets out of bed Thursday, he will be the former owner of the on First Street.

Messina and his wife Cindy opened the ice cream store in June 1996 and have been running it together ever since. Last year Cindy Messina had to step away from working at the shop for health reasons and running the store alone proved to be much more work. The new owners will take over Thursday.

Messina may be but he has new challenges ahead and current projects to keep him busy.

“I’ll be putting all my energies into the school board, the fair board and most importantly, running for the Board of Supervisors in June 2012.”

says he has a campaign committee formed and is raising money for a run against Supervisor Linda Seifert who announced her plan to run for re-election earlier in November. If no other candidate decides to run, the winner of the June 2012 primary election will represent the Second District.

The district includes all of Benicia and parts of Vallejo, Susuin City and Fairfield.

Seifert is finishing her first term in office. She defeated John Silva in 2008.
