Why Go: Sunday is the Torchlight Parade and Monday’s activities include a picnic at noon in Benicia City Park, where there will be hot food, live entertainment, an open-air market and activities for children until 7 p.m. About 9 p.m., a fireworks display begins at the bottom of First Street.

Where/When: Alameda County Fairgrounds, Pleasanton; Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Why Go: The fireworks show is Friday at 9:30 p.m., viewable from the grandstands. The largest county fair in the area has tons of children’s and adult entertainment, such as carnival rides, a mini-tractor pull, pig races and a petting zoo.
Price: Ages 12 and younger free on Fridays; otherwise $4-$10 admission

Why Go: Ages 5-12 are invited to participate in a morning of free fishing at the Martinez Marina. Bring your fishing rod and the organizers will supply the bait. Everyone who participates receives a prize. A parent or guardian must accompany all children and all must register by Thursday.
