Benicia's opening of 'The Nerd' is this Easter weekend, plus other fun events in and around town

Why Go: Every two months an open-house reception is held to showcase new pieces and allow people to meet Martinez artists.

Where/When: Benicia Old Town Theatre Group, 140 W J St, Benicia; Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m.

Why Go: Enjoy local actors performing this two-act play about an unassuming young architect and what happens when someone from his past shows up at his house – to stay.

Why Go: Come plant trees with other volunteers, as a way to celebrate Earth Day week.

Why Go: This free event has There face painting, candy, prizes and an appearance by the Easter Bunny. The egg hunt begins at 1 p.m. but activities will get underway just after noon.
