Hand Grenade Found In Car At Pick-N-Pull

The Fairfield find was reported by the Solano County Sheriff's Department.

Solano County sheriff’s deputies this afternoon located a hand grenade inside a vehicle sold to an auto salvage yard in unincorporated Fairfield, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Staff members of Pick-N-Pull, located at 4659 Air Base Parkway, called deputies around 1 p.m. when they found what they believed to be a hand grenade inside a vehicle they had purchased two days ago, according to sheriff’s Deputy Jackson Harris.

Sheriff’s deputies, along with help from the Travis Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, inspected the item and confirmed it was a World War II-era hand grenade with the pin still attached, according to Harris.

During the inspection, deputies and the base’s EOD team were able to safely evacuate people from the business, Harris said.

The incident lasted about 90 minutes, he said. Harris said the EOD team planned to take the grenade back to the air force base to safely detonate it. Sheriff deputies plan to track down the vehicle’s owners to find out where the grenade came from, Harris said.
