'Hats Off To VETS 2015 Breakfast' Furthers Housing Goal In Solano County

Community Action North Bay (CAN-B), the California Veterans Support Foundation (CVSF) and Community Development Partners (CDP) successfully combined their efforts in highlighting the need for supportive housing for veterans’ at the fifth annual Community Action North Bay Hats Off To VETS breakfast.
The Rocky Hill Road Veterans Housing Project is being developed in collaboration with the City of Vacaville, and Vacaville Community Housing and will result in 27 units of affordable housing for veterans in Solano County. A total of $20,000 was raised for the supportive services capital campaign that was launched with significant community support.

In addition to Community Development Partnership lead sponsorship were The California Veterans Support Foundation, Jelly Belly, Bryan Braker Funeral Home, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2333, The American Legion Auxiliary, Solano County Veterans Service Office, Brian Kelly & Associates, Gonzales Architects, A Better Way, Office of US Representative John Garamendi 3rd District, Van Dewark Hearn Construction, Solano County Supervisor Skip Thomson District 5, CC Yin McDonalds, Vacaville Elks Lodge # 2638, David Baker Architects, and Waddell & Reed Financial Advisors.
The national goal of ending Veteran’s homelessness by 2015 is being taken up with the support of the Department of Veterans Affairs along with its many community partners with an additional goal of reducing Veterans Homelessness in Solano County by another 10%.

The building of Veteran specific permanent supportive housing units on Rocky Hill Road shows the commitment of the City of Vacaville which has donated the land and other public resources to the project. Mayor Len Augustine was honored at the event as the Veteran Champion of the year for his service to the country and his leadership in making affordable housing a priority for local Veterans.
Eric Paine of Community Development Partners agrees, “Developing safe, clean and affordable housing allows CDP to put our experience, expertise and resources in service of those who have served.” In order to ensure that the Veterans remain housed, Community Action North Bay has launched a capital campaign to raise funds for supportive services on site. “Veterans in CAN-B’s supportive housing programs are given the resources and case management needed to achieve their individualized goals for housing stability.
CAN-B staff is experienced in working with the most vulnerable clients in order to help them remain housed,” states CAN-B Executive Director Ruth Matz.
Contributions to date in include $10,000 in sponsorships and another $10,000 in individual gifts. Matching gifts of support are still needed to achieve the campaign target of $250,000. The breakdown of funds includes $100,000 for the on-site service center, $75,000 for IT infrastructure, and $50,000 for transportation as well as $25,000 for supportive services.
Major gifts from additional community partners are needed to match the $20,000 that has been raised to date.
