I-680 Brush Fire Snarls Traffic North Of Benicia

The Solano County blaze was reportedly burning on the freeway shoulder before flames jumped to the center divider.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — A brush fire broke out during the Monday evening commute on Interstate 680 north of Benicia at Marshview Road.

The blaze was reported around 4:30 p.m. as a grass fire on the right-hand shoulder of southbound I-680 at the Marshview offramp, south of Cordelia. Flames engulfed a tree and nearby brush, then jumped to the center divider, according to reports from the California Highway Patrol.

As of 5:15 p.m., the fire was causing traffic delays and some cars were reportedly driving the wrong way. The southbound fast lane and northbound slow lane remained open but the southbound slow lane was blocked, the CHP said.
