Iconic Sculpture by Late Benicia Artist Bob Arneson Acquired by SFMOMA

Benicia residents can see a Robert Arneson original sculpture in the Benicia Marina.

Bob Arneson’s iconic and controversial “Portrait of George” is back home in San Francisco after being purchased from a private collector in Arizona.  Arneson, an art professor at U.C. Davis lived in Benicia. 

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Moscone bust is part of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art collection of Bay Area and California art.

Benicians who want to see an Arneson original need only follow East Fifth Street to the Benicia Marina and follow the road to the end.
