Solano County crews will perform a chip seal treatment, which is a two-step process that includes an application of asphalt emulsion followed by a layer of crushed rock to an existing asphalt concrete pavement surface. A chip seal seals and bonds the cracks in the existing pavement and gets its name from the “chips” or small crushed rock placed on the surface.

Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24-25, on Lake Herman Road from Reservoir Road to East 2nd Street:

Work is scheduled between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.; crews will make an effort to minimize impacts to businesses and the traveling public.

The city’s contractor, Graham Contractors, Inc., will perform a micro-surfacing treatment over the Solano County’s chip seal. Micro-surfacing consists of the application of a mixture of water, asphalt emulsion, aggregate (very small crushed rock), and chemical additives to an existing asphalt concrete pavement surface. The micro-surfacing serves to improve the chip retention of the chip seal and smoothness of the driving surface. Together, the chip seal and micro-surfacing provide a cape seal treatment.

Lake Herman Road from the westerly city limits to Reservoir Road (dates not yet determined):

This portion of Lake Herman road will be rehabilitated by the Solano County’s contractor with a treatment known as Full-Depth Reclamation. FDR is an in-place recycling method for reconstruction of existing asphalt concrete pavements using the existing pavement section material as the base for the new roadway-wearing surface. The treatment of the base layer and recycled asphalt provides a stronger foundation. This process effectively produces a cost- effective solution that maximizes limited budgets.
