Local Textile Artist goes International

Art quilt, "Cityscape," is traveling to China, England and Ireland with a Studio Art Quilt Association show called "Concrete & Grassland."

Vallejo, CA – Susan Lane has been creating modern quilts and other forms of textile art for 12 years and some of her creations have been displayed in local shows.

Now, Lane’s art is going international.

Her art quilt, “Cityscape,” is traveling to China, England and Ireland with a Studio Art Quilt Association show called “Concrete & Grassland.”

Lane’s quilt is an abstract depiction of shapes and perspectives in vibrant colors. She also creates portraits and scenes of nature and urban settings.

“Concrete & Grassland, exploring the juxtaposition of the natural landscape and the human constructed cityscape, opened at the Grants Pass (Oregon) Museum of Art in June 2016. It will travel to the 9th Asia Quilt Festival in Shanghai, China, Sept. 22-24. The exhibit will open in other venues in Asia and Europe beginning in the fall of 2018.

Lane creates art with fabric, thread and paper -- materials she’s worked with all her life. Adding paint, dye and wool results in her modern and striking fabric creations. Galleries in Benicia, Mendocino, Sacramento, Fort Bragg, Vacaville, and Illinois, Washington, Texas and Nevada have shown her work.
