Man Paroled For Child Murder Found With Thousands Of Child Sex Abuse Material

Marvin Mutch, 69, came under law enforcement scrutiny after a search warrant was executed at his residence last May.

VALLEJO, CA — A Vallejo man paroled for killing a girl admitted to possession of child sex abuse material and being in possession of a firearm as a felon last week, according to federal prosecutors.

Marvin Mutch, 69, came under law enforcement scrutiny after a search warrant was executed at his residence last May. During the search, officers seized electronic devices containing "tens of thousands" of images of the sexual exploitation of children, some as young as 3 or 4 years old.

Officers also seized a privately manufactured "ghost gun" containing eight rounds of ammunition from the center console of Mutch's vehicle parked in his garage, federal prosecutors said Friday.

Mutch, who was convicted of killing a 13-year-old girl in 1975, is barred from having firearms. He beat the girl and then drowned her in Alameda Creek in Union City, a crime for which he served 40 years in state prison. He was paroled in 2016.

Mutch is scheduled to be sentenced in August and is facing up to 35 years in federal prison.
