Man's Death On Church Steps Investigated As Suspicious: PD

Officers responded Sunday morning to find the man unresponsive on the steps of a Vallejo church, police said.

VALLEJO, CA — A man was found dead at a Vallejo church Sunday morning and police are investigating the death as suspicious.

Officers with the Vallejo Police Department responded at 9:22 a.m. Sunday to the report of a man down on the steps of a church in the 1000 block of Indiana Street, a police spokesperson said in a news release.

The man was unresponsive when officers got there and he was declared dead at the scene by Vallejo Fire Department personnel, Vallejo PD Spokesperson Brittany Jackson said.

The identity of the victim, who was possibly in his early 60s, was not immediately known.

Preliminary reports revealed the victim may have been homeless, Jackson said.

Detectives with the Vallejo Police Department assumed the investigation.

Police asked anyone with information about the man's death to call Detective Murphy at 707-648-5430 or Detective Cpl. Ken Jackson at 707-648-4280.

"This case is being investigated as a suspicious death pending an official autopsy report by the Solano County Coroner's Office," Jackson said. "The victim's identity, which was unknown at the time of response, will be withheld pending next of kin notification by the Solano County Coroner's Office."
