Monica Brown Joins Solano Co. Supes; Benicia, Dixon Elect Mayors

SOLANO COUNTY, CA – Retired teacher Monica Brown appears to have been elected Tuesday as the newest member of Solano County's Board of Supervisors.
Brown had 53.9 percent of the vote compared to nearly 46 percent for former Benicia City Councilman Michael Ioakimedes in the race for the board's District 2 seat, according to complete unofficial election results.
Brown, a Solano Community College trustee who taught for 39 years before retiring, has said she intends to give her annual $96,000 salary as supervisor if elected to set up a foundation to support public education and
families in the district.

There were three mayoral races and several contested city council races also on ballots around Solano County.
Benicia Mayor Elizabeth Patterson appears to have narrowly won re-election with 5,241 votes compared to 5,132 for Councilman Marc Hughes.

Planning commissioner Steve Young and incumbent councilman Tom Campbell won Benicia City Council seats, while another incumbent, Christina Strawbridge, fell short in third place.
Business owner Thom Bogue had just 60 more votes than journalist-columnist Loran Hoffman in the race for mayor of Dixon, where retired police Capt. Steven Bird and local farmer Devon Minnema appeared to win City Council seats, according to the unofficial results.
Fairfield incumbent City Councilman Rick Vaccaro appeared to win re-election, with fellow incumbent Pam Bertani leading retired police Officer Robert Marin by only 43 votes for the second open council seat, according to the unofficial results.
Hope Cohn and Don Roos appeared to win Rio Vista City Council seats, while Ron Rowlett and Dilenna Harris won seats on Vacaville's City Council and Robert McConnell, Rozzana Vender-Aliga and Hermie Sunga were elected to Vallejo's City Council.
Councilman Bob Sampayan was elected as Vallejo's mayor with 41 percent of the vote compared to 31 percent for Landis Graden and 27 percent for Bill Pendergast, according to the unofficial results.
