Motorcyclist Killed in Berkeley ID'd as Kelly Dew of Benicia

The crash happened Friday on Interstate Highway 80 when Dew crashed his Ducati into a minivan.

A motorcyclist killed when he rear-ended a minivan on Interstate Highway 80 in Berkeley on Friday morning was identified today as a 44-year-old Benicia resident, according to the Alameda County coroner’s bureau.

Kelly Dew was riding his 2015 Ducati Diavel motorcycle west on I-80 near Ashby Avenue when he hit the back of a 2010 Honda Odyssey minivan at 9:17 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers said.

Dew flew from his bike onto the highway. Emergency crews performed CPR on him and he was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, but died there a short time later, according to the CHP.

The minivan driver was not injured.

CHP investigators said Friday it did not appear that Dew was splitting lanes at the time of the crash and drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
