Naval Ship USS Emory S. Land To Dock At Mare Island
The city of Vallejo is planning a welcoming event.

From The City of Vallejo: On May 31, the Vallejo community will officially welcome the USS Emory S. Land to Vallejo. The USS Emory will dock at Mare Island for routine maintenance with Mare Island Dry Dock, LLC throughout the summer.
"I am honored and proud to welcome the USS Emory S. Land and her crew to Vallejo where she will be undergoing work at the Mare Island Dry Docks," said Mayor Bob Sampayan. "The last time we had a crewed naval vessel come to Mare Island was in the early 1990's when the US Navy controlled the facility. The Emory's visit will allow her crew to see the sights of our community and to be welcomed by our residents. We will celebrate her visit along with her crew and will proudly say, welcome to Vallejo."
A team of public and private entities are collaborating to bring an event together on the waterfront, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The community is invited to welcome the ship on the "Vallejo" side of the strait along the waterfront green and Independence Park, near the ferry building. Patrons are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and bring American Flags to show support for the brave men and women serving our country. The Sailors will be on the rail when they come in to receive the welcome with the Vallejo High School Drum Line present in full uniform to offer ceremonial music. Attendees are encouraged to grab some lunch at the waterfront restaurants or from some mobile vendors near the waterfront green. On April 28, the Mare Island Dry Dock LLC, was awarded a $16 million contract for the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39), which was procured through the Federal Business Opportunities website. USS Emory S. Land is the first ship in the Navy to bear the name and among the last in the class of submarine tenders. While the ship is commanded by the US Navy, its navigation, deck, engineering, and other supply functions are provided by civilian mariners. To read more about this Navy contract, click here.
