Cleats, hair ribbons and bats, along with parents, grandparents, sisters and brothers, all in great abundance meant Benicia Girls Fast-pitch Softball Opening Day was finally here. The festivities took place at Community Park on Saturday, March 12 at 12:30.
While the smell of hotdogs wafted through the air, managers turned in line-up cards and parents found seats in the stands. And the girls sauntered up to the plate, kicked their cleats to the dirt and hoisted their bats in perfect stances while the fielders took position.
Softball and baseball are a right of spring and even though the calendar says we are still in winter the sports being played tell us spring has arrived.
