Panther Band Taking the Show on the Road
Four performances in one day; two first-place finishes for color guard.
The winter competition season is off and running for the color guard and the drumline. These two groups make up the Winterguard team, which performs and competes in between the fall and spring marching seasons. Their themed routines, which are performed indoors, were created about three months ago. Members of the teams have been practicing, revising and fine-tuning ever since.
They performed at Fairfield’s “Pageantry on Parade” competition Saturday. The team put in a 14-plus hour day, loading and unloading the equipment truck eight times, for the four trips between Fairfield and Armijo high schools.
The hard work and dedication was truly a marvel to see. The band and its dedicated boosters had heavy and unwieldy equipment to deal with, all the while keeping to a relentless schedule. The color guard and the drumline took turns helping each other with the equipment.

After unloading and warm-ups, the drumline and color guard still had the energy to perform. By the end of the day, the drumline had a chance to showcase its new uniforms and revised routine.
Topping off the day on a grand note, the color guard brought home two first-place finishes for its whimsical piece called "A Day at Play.” It has gone through several evolutions and is touching and powerful. Theirs, the final show of the day at Fairfield, was performed before a full house.

There are several more weekends of competitions, as well as a local exhibition at Benicia High School for the Benicia Bay Winter Review on March 25. The band would love to see you there.
