Panther Soccer Team Edges Past Cordova

The wind really came up in the second half.

Playing at home during weather conditions that conjured up "dark and stormy night" imagery, the Benicia Panthers managed to win their first game of the Sac-Joaquin Division III playoffs.  A late goal - during stoppage time - sent the game into overtime and after two scoreless 10 minute periods the game was dicided on penalty kicks.

The Benicia goal came from a set piece penalty kick that Panther Matt Judd loftedover the wall.  Senior Dante Arias beat the defender to the ball and sent the match into overtime.

The Vallejo Times Herald reports that Benicia coach Javier Martinez called Drolette Stadium the "Wrigley Field of the West" last night.
