Power Outages Continue In North Bay, Across Bay Area

Breaking: The number of outages since Sunday is the highest PG&E has experienced due to heat since July 2006.

NORTH SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA -- Hundreds in the North Bay were among more than 2,000 PG&E customers who remained without power in the Bay Area Monday afternoon following a series of heat-related outages, according to the utility.

The outages were affecting 2,391 customers as of 3:30 p.m. Monday, down from a peak of 19,529 on Sunday, when increased demand for air conditioning overloaded electrical lines, transformers and other equipment, PG&E officials said.

The South Bay still had 1,073 customers affected as of this afternoon, followed by the East Bay with 771, the North Bay with 469, San Francisco with 77 and the Peninsula with only 2.

The number of outages Sunday, when triple-digit temperatures were reported around the region, was the highest PG&E has experienced due to heat since July 2006, utility officials said.

Hot weather is expected to continue this week, and PG&E is bringing in extra crews and resources to help restore power to all customers.
