SCC Awarded $199,960 National Science Foundation Grant

Solano Community College (SCC) announces that it has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education grant of $199,960 to fund the College’s Single-Use Bioreactor Systems Education and Training Program (SUBSET) in Biotechnology.

SCC Biotechnology faculty developed the NSF-funded project to address a gap in the national biotechnology curriculum—the emerging use of disposable technologies like the single-use bioreactor.

SCC administration and Biotechnology faculty, with US Representative John Garamendi, will describe this first-ever NSF grant awarded to SCC and the project significance on Wednesday, Sept. 3 from 12 noon to 12:30 p.m. at the Solano Community College Biotechnology Laboratory, 4000 Suisun Valley, Fairfield.

The College has served as the preeminent educational institution in Solano County since 1945 when it was founded as Vallejo Junior College. In the early 1970s, the College moved to its present Fairfield site, and is presently serving over 8,000 students throughout the academic year.
