Service To Resume On SR-84 Real McCoy Ferry, SR-220 J-Mack Ferry

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — As long as the weather cooperates, the State Route 220 J-Mack Ferry should be back up and running by the end of the second week of December and the State Route 84 Real McCoy Ferry could return to service as early as the end of January, Caltrans announced Tuesday in a news release.

The SR-220 J-Mack Ferry was taken out of service for repairs and federally mandated U.S. Coast Guard inspections in September.

"The work is nearly completed, and as soon as the ferry can be transported back from the boat repair facility safely, it will go back into service," said Janis Mara, Caltrans District 4 Spokeswoman.

Unless stormy weather or rough seas delay its return, the J-Mack is slated to be back in service by Dec. 14.

As for the Real McCoy, it has been out of service since September because of a structural failure in the hull. A boat repair company was immediately hired but there was no room at a repair facility that could accommodate the Real McCoy, Mara said.

Repair work began the week of Nov. 4 but additional issues were discovered that will delay the Real McCoy's return to service until approximately the end of January, according to Caltrans.

"Emergency services will be available to Ryer Island residents at all times, 24 hours a day and seven days a week, while the ferries are out," Mara said. "Ambulances and other responders will be dispatched out of Walnut Grove."

During the ferry closures, motorists are advised to use the SR-84 Miner Slough Bridge to the north of Ryer Island to access Ryer Island.
