Solano Co. Deputies Seize Guns, Baton In Traffic Stop; 2 Arrested

Breaking: The passenger allegedly provided a false name but a fingerprint scan showed he was a felon with warrants, sheriff's officials say.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA -- A Vallejo man was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms, providing false identification, drug possession and various other alleged criminal violations following a traffic stop Wednesday morning in Vallejo, the Solano County Sheriff's Office reported.

Deputies initiated the stop when they saw a car run a red light at Magazine Street and Sonoma Boulevard, Solano County sheriff's officials said in a statement Thursday. As the deputies approached the car and saw a gun and baton inside, they decided to detain the driver and the passenger for safety reasons, according to the statement.

As they spoke with the pair, the passenger allegedly provided a false name to deputies. However, a fingerprint scanner revealed that he was Lamar Scruggs, 46, of Vallejo -- a convicted felon on probation who had two warrants out for his arrest, sheriff's officials said.

A search of the car allegedly yielded four firearms, ammunition, a collapsible baton, drugs and drug paraphernalia. Two of the firearms were loaded, one was stolen, and all four were not registered to Scruggs, sheriff's officials said. The guns and other items were seized.

Scruggs was booked into the Solano County jail on suspicion of numerous gun charges, providing false ID, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, violating the terms of his probation, and two misdemeanor warrants.
