Solano County Man Armed With Shotgun Arrested
The man threatened to kill family members and responding law enforcement officers.

A man was arrested in Vallejo Wednesday after he allegedly threatened a victim and police with a gun, according to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office.
David Gunkel, 44, was arrested on suspicion of making threats, resisting a peace officer, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of an illegally modified shotgun and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.
Deputies responded to the 500 block of Phillip Street in an unincorporated pocket of Vallejo on a report of a family disturbance after the victim called and reported Gunkel was threatening to shoot them and any responding deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.

Other members of the household were able to exit the home safely and speak with deputies.
Members of the Solano County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, detectives and a K-9 unit responded to the incident.

Deputies said they tried to contact Gunkel by loudspeaker and telephone but were unsuccessful, so the SWAT team entered the home after obtaining a search warrant.
Deputies located Gunkel hiding in a crawl space under a neighboring home, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Deputies also seized an altered shotgun during their search.
