Suspicious Device Found Friday Shutters Vallejo School

VALLEJO - The Grace Patterson Elementary School in Vallejo was closed Friday after a suspicious device was found near the school located at 1080 Porter St.

Principal Paula Suarez said the suspicious device was found around 7:30 a.m. near the school crossing area.

Police secured the area and advised the school close for the day, Suarez said.

The school district then notified parents about the closure, Suarez said.

The Vallejo Fire Department and the Napa County Bomb Squad also responded to detonate the device believed to be a pipe bomb.

The fifth grade class's field trip scheduled for today was postponed until next week, Suarez said.
