     Will Basil follow
when tomatoes are gone
and raised beds are quiet?

        I think chives will stay
    And artichokes too, of course,
will hang around, scraggly and forlorn.

     But Basil, pungent and sly,
  may defect or merely go absent
             without leave.

      Stay or go, No great loss.
         A new crop of basil
     can be recruited in Spring.
