A 22-month-old boy who suffered major injuries in a vehicle crash in Vallejo last week died of his injuries Monday at a hospital, a police sergeant said.
The boy’s father, Joseph Schaad, 35, of Vallejo, was driving a 1998 Ford Contour south on state Highway 29 around 7:25 a.m. on June 2 when he struck the back of a 2006 Ford F-450 pickup truck towing a utility trailer that was slowing down in heavy commute traffic, police Sgt. Michael Nichelini said.
The baby, who was in the rear seat, suffered blunt force trauma and head injuries in the crash. He was taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where he succumbed to his injuries, Nichelini said. Schaad suffered minor injuries and spent a night at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield, according to Nichelini.
