“Under City Lights” Dance Show at Benicia High

Spring dance performance showcases high school dance students.

 

The spring dance show"Under City Lights" will be performed by high school dance students  at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 26 and at 7 p.m. at  School's Auditorium, 1100 Military West in Benicia.  Admission prices are $8 for children, high school and college students with identification and $10 for general admission. A $2 discount is available for all seats reserved in advance until noon Wednesday May 25 by calling 707-751-2338. 

Dance students from Benicia High School will provide an exciting “get-a-way” for those making Memorial Day Weekend plans allowing the audience to see the sights and sounds of New York City.

The thrill of the hunt is added as a teenage boy discovers a document that shows he has a grandmother he never knew.  He searches various locations tracing her history in hopes of finding her.

Some of the acts feature works developed in Beginning, Intermediate and Advance dance classes conducted by BHS Dance teacher, Christine Mani.  Other dances have been choreographed by alumni of the dance program and local choreographers who are continuing to build their talents at university and professionally.

Current students also competed to have their choreography presented in the show.   “The show captures the many faces of New York in many creative variations of dance styles," said Mani.  "The styles include ballet, modern, tap, hip-hop, African, and jazz.  The students have really honed their skills to demonstrate how much they have achieved in their studies."
