Vallejo Man, 23, Dies In Multiple-Vehicle Crash On Sonoma Blvd.

BREAKING: The deceased was the passenger in a car that struck another vehicle; both cars then crashed into parked cars, Vallejo police say.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — The Solano County coroner's office has identified the passenger who died in a collision between two vehicles late Thursday evening in Vallejo as Mario Soto-Landa, 23, of Vallejo. The car Soto-Landa was riding in collided with another vehicle, then into two cars parked along a city roadway, Vallejo police said. The crash was reported at 5:19 p.m. in the 500 block of Sonoma Boulevard and left two other Vallejo residents injured, Vallejo police Lt. Michael Nichelini stated in a news release.

Police have determined that a 22-year-old Vallejo man lost control of his black 2002 Honda Accord in the northbound lanes of Sonoma Boulevard, crossed the double-yellow line and collided with a silver 2018 Dodge Challenger that was traveling southbound, Nichelini said.

Both vehicles then struck two cars parked at the west curb, according to the lieutenant.

The passenger of the Accord — later identified as Soto-Landa — suffered "severe injuries" in the crash, Nichelini said; although emergency medical personnel arrived and attempted to render aid, his injuries were fatal and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Accord suffered major injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment, Nichelini said.

The driver of the Challenger, a 23-year-old male Vallejo resident, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital.

Police did not disclose the names of the two drivers involved in the crash.

"The collision is still under investigation and traffic investigators are working to determine what, if any, charges will be filed against the driver of the Accord," Nichelini said.

Police say it was the first fatal vehicle collision of the new year in Vallejo, and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Traffic Officer James Melville at 707-648-4014.
