Visions for Vacancies: The Yuba Manufacturing Site
There are some empty spaces, vacant lots and occasionally a few abandoned shops around Benicia. This new feature gives you a chance to chime in on what you'd like to see in place of the open space—if anything at all.
In 1853 Benicia became the third Capitol of California and the Pacific Mail Steamship Company opened a manufacturing facility in Benicia. In 1879 the factory was acquired by Baker & Hamilton and became the Benicia Agricultural Works. In the early 1900’s the facility was acquired by Yuba Manufacturing.
Yuba specialized in large machinery for mining and dredging. The spillway gates for Hoover Dam were built there and during World War II cannons were manufactured at Yuba.
The property is owned by Amports which had most of the old buildings torn down.
