Wednesday Fire In Benicia Under Investigation

The grass fire was near the 2000 block of Lake Herman Road.

Fire officials in Benicia are investigating a suspicious two-alarm grass fire Wednesday that burned 20 acres.

At 6:38 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a grass fire near the 2000 block of Lake Herman Road, fire officials said. When fire crews arrived, firefighters noted winds were driving the fire east towards Lake Herman, according to fire officials.

Although no structures were immediately in any danger, the fire was threatening to cross the lake and enter a State Responsibility Area, triggering a request for Cal Fire, fire officials said. The Vallejo, Cordelia and Valero Fire Departments assisted with the response.
