This week's Benicia Whiz Kid: Heidi Wing
Age: 17
Grade: Senior

Accomplishment: On Sept. 6, Heidi was appointed as the Youth Commissioner for the Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Commission by . Heidi is an AP class student, the senior class secretary and an officer in the Interact Club.

She began getting involved in her community while in middle school as a volunteer at Robert Semple School's Harvest Festival. Since then, she's volunteered at the elementary summer school and at Benicia Middle School during registration. As a middle school student, Heidi was a member of the National Junior Honor Society and received the Mary Harding Citizenship Award.
As a member of the (BYC), Heidi volunteered at Clock Tower dances and Summer Carnival and served on multiple committees. Over the summer, Heidi attended with other Benicia High leadership students. Heidi aims to have one project or event per month. She currently has her sights on getting the BYC involved with the Benicia Water Project, which raises money to build a water well in Uganda.
Aside from her community activities, Heidi has worked at for more than two years. After graduation, Heidi hopes to attend Texas Christian University to study fashion merchandising. She's had an interest in fashion since taking a class at Benicia High and practices her skills by making costumes for 's upcoming Scarecrow Contest.
Key to Heidi's awesomeness: “I would have to say it's probably determination and patience,” says Heidi.
