Who's Who in Benicia: Maria McCullough
Retired educator reinvents herself as a feng shui practitioner.

Where did you grow up? I was born in Milan, Italy. My family moved to New York and San Francisco.
How did you end up in Benicia? We had friends here and I always wanted to live by the water with a beautiful view. I moved to Benicia in 1996.
How old are you... and how old do you feel? Age is relative.. I'm at the 30-year-old side of 62.

What kind of work do you do? I recently retired from 37 years of work in education. I was a teacher and principal in Vacaville, a curriculum specialist for the Mount Diablo district. I finished my career as director of curriculum and instruction in Pittsburg.
What do you do now? My retirement goal was to study at the Western School of Feng Shui. I became a certified feng shui practitioner in February and I have been enjoying enhancing people's lives through their environment. Beginning in July, I will be the the feng shui columnist for the and I still do educational consulting.

Do you participate in any community activities? My father was the third president of so I contribute to the art scholarship in his name. My husband and I love to participate in craft fairs and Fridays on First Street.
What do you do for fun? I love to run to the waterfront with our dog, yoga, garden, ride our tandem bike, kayaking and dining in town with friends.
What are your favorite places in Benicia? The waterfront
What do you love about this town? The small-town feeling, the friendly people and the waterfront.
