Windows Of 36 Cars Smashed Overnight In Benicia: Police
Authorities were first alerted to the spate of shattered car windows at about 2 a.m. Tuesday.

BENICIA, CA — After the windows of at least 36 vehicles were smashed and items taken from the cars, police in Benicia are asking residents of a certain area to check their security camera footage. Officials with the Benicia Police Department said the rash of car burglaries was first reported at about 2 a.m. Tuesday by someone in the 300 block of West M Street whose car window had been smashed.
Officers responded to find the side windows of that and several other cars shattered, Benicia police said Tuesday in a statement posted to social media.
"If you found your car broken into last night in Benicia, you were one of at least three dozen victims of the crime," police said.

Cars with windows smashed were found in the 100 block East O Street, the 300-400 block of West M Street and the 1200 block of West 3rd Street, according to Benicia PD.
Police said small items were taken from the cars, with many of the items thrown on the street.

Many of thoes items have since been recovered, police said
"At this point, it appears that this is an act of vandalism, and not theft," Benicia police said.
Anyone who was a victim of the crime or recalls seeing something or someone suspicious is asked to call 707-745-3411. Additionally, anyone who lives in the area and has security cameras facing the street is asked to review their footage and call police if they have surveillance images that may help investigators find the person or persons responsible for the spate of vandalism.
