Woman Rescued from Smoke-Filled Apartment After Neighbor Heard Smoke Alarm

The woman's neighbor called the fire department after hearing the smoke alarm going off inside the apartment.

Firefighters in Fairfield rescued an unconscious person late Saturday night from an apartment with smoke inside, fire officials said.

Crews responded at 11:09 p.m. to the 2400 block of Peach Tree Drive after a neighbor reported the sound of a smoke alarm, according to fire officials.

Crews forced their way into the apartment and took the person to an ambulance, fire officials said.

Medics took the person to a hospital where doctors expect her to recover, according to fire officials.

A pot on the stove caused the smoke and the person could have died or suffered major injuries if the smoke detector did not go off and the neighbor didn’t call firefighters, fire officials said.
