How long has Mickee's Pet Grooming been in business?
I’ve personally been in the grooming business since 1993. Some customers will remember me from Benicia Pet and Feed. I opened Mickee's in 2000 on Military East and moved out here (to the Arsenal) in 2008. Our hours are 8 a.m - 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
What is your most popular service?
Our grooming service for both dogs and cats. We groom all breeds. We trim rabbit and guinea pig nails. We decided not to do bird grooming because they are sensitive and we wouldn’t want a dog to bark and upset them.

Can you tell me about the doggie day care part of the business?
Clients usually drop their pets off before 8 a.m. and pick them up before 6 p.m. unless they make arrangements. We have weekly and daily rates. We also offer a five-day card; four days at our regular price with the fifth day discounted to $10.
We always separate larger dogs from the smaller ones. They are walked and we give them treats. We don’t give them any food other than their own so we won’t upset their digestive tracks.

We want our neighbors in Benicia to know we are all in this business, my employees and me, because we love animals. You have to love animals to do the job. And I want to introduce my employees, Lorie Fields and Virginia Philburn.
