$10K Reward Offered to Catch a Berkeley Cold Case Killer

The Fremont man was shot in Berkeley when he tried to stop a fight.

BERKELEY, CA - Police announced Tuesday they are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading the arrest and conviction of suspects in connection with a fatal 2013 shooting at a popular Berkeley hills turnout.

On May 12, 2013, around 5:30 a.m., 21-year-old Alberto Santana-Silva of Fremont, along with two friends, arrived in their vehicle at a vehicle turnout along the west shoulder of Grizzly Peak Boulevard, which overlooks the San Francisco Bay, according to police.

Other people in their cars were also in the area.

Several people allegedly became involved in a fight. Although Santana-Silva did not know the people involved the fight, he intervened. One of the people involved in the fight then left the area with his associates in their vehicle.

The suspect, however, returned a short time later, armed with a handgun. The suspect then confronted Santana-Silva, as he was sitting in his vehicle and shot him. After being shot, Santana-Silva then drove his vehicle a short distance, before it came to rest in a ditch on the side of the road.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic or Filipino man between his mid 20s and mid 30s, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds, with hair worn close to his head, possibly tied in a ponytail. He was wearing a white T-shirt and a black sweatshirt.

The suspect was accompanied by a several other people, including a Hispanic or Asian female similar in age, about 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with black hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a black shirt and black shorts.

Several vehicles were possibly associated with the suspect including a 2000 red Chevrolet Caprice or similar sedan, with a raised body and large chrome wheels with spokes and thing tires.

Additionally a white Chevrolet Suburban or similar SUV and an unknown dark-colored compact car with a chrome exhaust pipe.

Police are hoping the reward offering will prompt someone to come forward with information about this crime.
