17 Cited at Berkeley DUI, Driver License Checkpoint
The checkpoint was held in early February.

BERKELEY, CA — The Berkeley Police Department issued 17 citations at a DUI/Driver License Checkpoint held on Feb. 9. All of the tickets were for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license.
Officers contacted 820 drivers at the checkpoint, held from 8 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. at Ashby and San Pablo avenues.
According to the department, "DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads."

The next DUI checkpoint will be held on March 14.
Funding was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
