2 Sex Offenders Referred For Felony Charges To DA
The police department recently did compliance checks on 20 registered sex offenders in Berkeley.
BERKELEY, CA — The Berkeley Police Department 's Special Victims Unit conducted sex offender compliance checks for 20 sex offenders on May 10. The detectives submitted two felony out-of-custody cases to the District Attorney’s office for possible charges.
"When someone is ordered to register as a sex offender, there are requirements that they must adhere to in order to continue to be in compliance," the department explained in a social media post. "During these compliance checks, members of SVU ensure that the sex offenders in Berkeley are in compliance."
Primarily, detectives confirm that the sex offender is living at the address provided to BPD upon registering. If they are not in compliance, the sex offenders can be arrested on site-and booked or their cases are submitted to the District Attorney’s office.
