2013 Berkeley Murder: Killer Sentenced To Prison

The victim was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.

SAN LEANDRO, CA —A San Leandro man was sentenced today to 16 years in state prison for fatally shooting a man in West Berkeley in August 2013.

Krishna Ferreira, 26, was charged with murder for the shooting death of 24-year-old Dustin Bynum outside Bing's Liquors in the 1800 block of San Pablo Avenue at about 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 1, 2013.

But on April 14, prosecutors agreed to allow Ferreira to plead no contest to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter.

Ferreira also pleaded no contest to an enhancement clause that he used a gun to kill Bynum and admitted that he had a prior conviction for second-degree robbery on Aug. 6, 2012.

Bynum was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after the shooting.

Ferreira is deaf and used the services of deaf interpreters during his court appearances.

According to Ferreira's Facebook page, he was a member of Berkeley High's class of 2008 and later studied at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill.
