3 Arrested After Fireworks Investigation Leads Berkeley Officers To Ghost Gun

BERKELEY, CA — Three people were taken into custody early Sunday morning after an investigation into fireworks being ignited in Berkeley led police to the seizure of a ghost gun, authorities said.

Police say they responded around 2:19 a.m. to the intersection of Addison Street and Dwight Way after someone reported hearing gunfire.

At the scene, officers saw evidence that someone had recently lit fireworks in the street, and saw three people entering a nearby home, police said.

They detained the people, one of whom admitted to setting off the fireworks, police said.

Officers searched the residence for any more fireworks, but instead found an unserialized, loaded AR-style pistol, ammo and a ballistic helmet, police said.

The three suspects, who were not identified, were taken into custody on suspicion of being felons in possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as other related violations, police said.

Police in a statement Tuesday warned people that fireworks are illegal in Berkeley. Police added that fireworks can endanger lives and spark fires.
