3 UC Berkeley Graduates Win 2016 Pulitzer Prizes
Two of the prizes were for journalism, while the other for fiction. One writer had high praise for the university.

BERKELEY, CA - Three UC Berkeley graduates have won 2016 Pulitizer Prizes - two for journalism and one for fiction. The winners are:
- T. Christian Miller
- Soumya Karlamangla
- Viet Thanh Nguyen
Miller is a 1992 graduate who won for explanatory journalism. The Pulitizer announcement reads that the award is "for a startling examination and exposé of law enforcement's enduring failures to investigate reports of rape properly and to comprehend the traumatic effects on its victims."
Karlamangla is a 2013 graduate who won for breaking news, as part of the LA Times coverage of the San Bernardino terror attack. The coverage was praised, "for exceptional reporting, including both local and global perspectives, on the shooting in San Bernardino and the terror investigation that followed.”

Nguyen won for his novel The Sympathizer. In a blog post following his win, he praised the university, "Great love to Asian American Studies, to Ethnic Studies, to UC Berkeley, my alma mater that made me into the person that I am, to all who fight the good fight and who will never, ever believe that they are only individuals."
