4 UC Berkeley Students Win $100,000
The prize is from a data science competition staged by a hedge fund.

BERKELEY, CA — Four University of California at Berkeley graduate students took home a $100,000 prize when they won a data science competition staged by a hedge fund, university officials said Thursday.
Eric Munsing, Soren Kunzel, Jake Soloff and Allen Tang won The Data Open Championship sponsored by the hedge fund Citadel.
Each team in the competition applied data science to education.

The UC Berkeley team focused their efforts on charter schools.
Eighty finalists were selected from 19 regional competitions.

Kunzel and Soloff are studying statistics. Tang is studying electrical engineering and computer science and Munsing is studying civil and environmental engineering.
