All invited to BCC's Black History Month events
Berkeley City College's Black Student Union (BSU) has organized a series of Black History Month events every Wednesday and Thursday
12:15-1:15 p.m., Thur., Feb. 19: Open Mic Show in BCC’s Auditorium; Social Mixer
in BCC Atrium
• 12:15-12:30 p.m., Wed., Feb. 25: “Young, Gifted and Black” performance. “Young, Gifted, and
Black” are elementary, middle, and high school students who teach African American history through poetry. The group has performed for audiences throughout the Bay Area and in several countries. Long-time educator Laroilyn Davis and Hodari B. Davis, Youth Speaks national program director, direct this unique group.
• 12:30-1:15 p.m., Wed., Feb. 25: Elaine Brown, keynote speaker, is an American activist, writer,
singer, and former Black Panther Party chairman who is based in Oakland, California.
• 6-8 p.m., Thur., Feb. 26: “Real Talk Panel Discussion” in BCC Auditorium. The discussion will be
guided by a theme of past, present and future realities of racism; conversations about black LGBTQ excellence; giving back to the black community, and much more. Panel Members include:
**Elon James White: The founder of the media outlet TWiB (This Week in Blackness).
**Eniola Abioye: A community member and student at UC Berkeley
**Aman Williams: Berkeley City College Black Student Union Communications Officer
