BERKELEY, CA — A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian with serious injuries earlier this month in Berkeley, police said.

Police say the pedestrian was crossing Adeline Street in the northbound marked crosswalk at Harmon Street around 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, when the driver struck him.

The impact caused the pedestrian to land on the hood of the car, according to the Berkeley Police Department.

The motorist drove with the man on the hood of the car for about 41 yards before he eventually fell back onto the road, police said.

The motorist then continued driving, police said. The man, meanwhile, was left with significant head and body injuries, police said.

Using flock cameras, surveillance footage and statements from witnesses, officers identified that the car involved in the crash was registered to a 41-year-old Berkeley man.

Surveillance footage from the suspect's apartment building parking garage also showed him arriving soon after the crash, police said.

With the evidence, officers secured a warrant and took the suspect into custody in connection with the crash. The suspect's identity was not immediately revealed by police.

Investigators, meanwhile, are still looking for the suspect's vehicle, authorities said. The keys were found during the search, but the car was not located, police said.

The car is Black 2014 Toyota Camry with a California license plate of 8GDE554. The car has a strip of tape on the passenger side where the rear bumper seam meets the quarter panel, police said.
