1. 2 Men Dead In 2 Days At UC Berkeley: Report (patch.com) — Two men died on consecutive days this week on the UC Berkeley campus, one a student who apparently fell from a building near the Unit 3 residence halls and another found in bushes near Sproul Hall. Police say there is currently no indication of foul play, and the Alameda County Medical Examiner is still working to determine the causes of death, leaving many in the Berkeley community seeking answers.
2. Man, woman found dead Sunday in Berkeley's Aquatic Park (berkeleyside.org) — Two people were found dead in a car at Berkeley’s Aquatic Park late Sunday morning, and authorities are still working to determine who the man was and how both died. The woman has been identified but her name is being withheld pending family notification, and police have not yet released further details about what happened.
3. Union calls for Berkeley library leader's firing, renewing turmoil in system (berkeleyside.org) — Berkeley’s main library system is facing fresh turmoil as the largest union representing more than 100 workers calls for Interim Director Henry Bankhead’s removal, citing safety and morale concerns. Other staff defend his leadership while the Board of Library Trustees moves ahead with hiring a permanent director, a decision that could shape services and workplace conditions at all city branches.
4. UC Berkeley student arrested after slashing boyfriend: Police (berkeleyscanner.com) — Berkeley police arrested a 20-year-old UC Berkeley student Thursday in downtown Berkeley on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence after her boyfriend was found with a serious back wound on Ward Street. Officers say his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, and campus police helped locate the suspect. No court dates or additional case details are available yet.
5. The Wire: Berkeley's California Theatre sold to Beverly Hills buyer (berkeleyside.org) — Several significant developments are unfolding in Berkeley, from the sale of the long-shuttered California Theatre to a Beverly Hills buyer to scrutiny over a city-funded youth cannabis program tied to local political figures. Residents also face a major I-80 bottleneck through town, a serious e-bike crash at Cedar and San Pablo, and UC Berkeley students’ strong vote for divestment transparency.
