OAKLAND, CA — Three people were killed and five were injured late Saturday night when a vehicle plowed into pedestrians in Oakland, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. in the area of International Boulevard and 85th Avenue, according to the Oakland Fire Department.
Three people died at the scene, two were taken to receive medical care in critical condition, one was transported in serious condition, and two others, including the suspect, suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
Oakland police said the driver, whose name was not released, is under 18 and was arrested.
It appears that the vehicle was moving fast and traveling north on 85th Avenue and struck a parked vehicle and several pedestrians as the driver turned left onto International Boulevard, police said.
The driver, who tried to flee on foot but was stopped by people in the area, was held on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, The Mercury News reported.
The three people who died were all men, ages 65, 64 and 44, according to the newspaper.
